This Kottam is erected in order to hail the world poet Thiruvalluvar, who penned the great Thirukkural. This sublime monument has become one of the getaway places in Chennai; the park adjoining to it makes it more attractive.
Thiruvalluvar Kottam is a not-to-be-missed place of rich cultural importance and architectural splendour. Situated in Chennai City, this massive monument is dedicated to the great saint Thiruvalluvar, who has given to the world a great treatise, the Thirukkural, which is considered a guiding book for a peaceful life and good governance. The focal point of Kottam is the beautiful 133-foot-high statue of Thiruvalluvar, which symbolizes the 133 chapters of his works. The monument itself is set amidst verdant gardens, along with many beautiful stone carvings explaining- various themes from Tamil literature and culture. The visitor is thus treated not only to an aesthetic experience but also educated on the deeper treasures of Thiruvalluvar’ s contribution to Tamil heritage. The Thiruvalluvar Kottam provides a very historical journey in a culturally enriched way. Architecture:
39m high chariot, with the effigy of Thiruvalluvar stands majestically in the centre of the Kottam. This chariot resembles the typical Hindu temple chariots. The remarkable feature of this fort is that all the 1330 verses of Thirukural are engraved on the granite pillars around the hall and this hall can accommodate about 4000 people. The lions carved in entrance of the fort are yet other enchanting features.

How to reach:

By Air: The nearest airport is Chennai International Airport, which is about 16 km away from the international airport.
By Train: The closest suburban railway is the one found at Nungambakkam, which is approximately 2 km away from Thiruvalluvar Kottam. The monument is reached from this place using an auto-rickshaw or a taxi.
By Road: Various bus routes are followed by the MTC buses passing near Thiruvalluvar Kottam.
