Madurai Nayakar Palace
A very popular tourist place in the city of Madurai is the grand Thirumalai Nayakar palace built by one of the greatest Nayak rulers, Thirumalai Nayakar. This palace is famed for its huge pillars and the beautifully color adorned ceilings along the main room. Further as you traverse inside this palace is the museum where ancient jars, statues, pots, coin collections, inscriptions and tools are showcased.
The palace is open during the day for a tour of the museum and the gardens during which time you can visit the museum. When you take a visit to the palace in the evenings, it is decorated with vibrant, colorful lights and a light - musical show is put on that depicts the legendary tale of Kannagi.
This palace is one among the most visited places in South India and has many secret ancient pathways which are restricted to visitors. What remains of the palace today, used to be the court where the king was entertained by music, dance and other forms of art. The king’s grandson shifted his capital from Madurai to Trichy and thus, stripped almost all the parts of the palace.
