Vivekananda Illam - Monuments - Tamilnadu
Originally known as the Ice House, the Vivekananda Illam is situated at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is named so in remembrance of Swami Vivekananda. A statue of Swami Vivekananda is installed in the entrance of the monument.
Specialty
The Vivekananda Illam houses 150 rare and exquisite photographs which serves as a specimen of the rich Indian culture. A photo exhibit of the Swami Vivekananda is exhibited here which portrays his early childhood, training with Sri Ramakrishna, his travel to Chicago, return to India, founding Ramakrishna Mission, visit to the West and death.
During his visit to Chennai, he stayed for a brief time in this monument during the year 1897. Presently this monument is an exhibit into the life and works of Swami Vivekananda. The monument houses a 3D hall that portrays Swami Vivekananda’s life, a meditation room, Swami Vivekananda photo gallery and the Vivekananda Park.
