Tenkasi

Belonging to the newly formed Tenkasi district, which branched out from Tirunelveli, this region is nourished by the bountiful Chittar and Anumanadhi rivers, fostering flourishing agriculture. Often referred to as the "Kasi of the South" Tenkasi dates back to the 13th century. The Kasi Vishwanathar Temple stands as a testament to its ancient history, housing inscriptions from 1384, during the reign of Vira Pandiya. These inscriptions document generous donations made to Brahmanas for the recitation of Vedas and Puranas in the temple.
